Bollywood Old Songs

Bollywood is the informal term popularly used for the Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai, India. The term is often incorrectly used to refer to the whole of Indian cinema; it is only a part of the Indian film industry. Bollywood is the largest film producer in India and one of the largest centers of film production in the world. The name is a portmanteau of Bombay (the former name for Mumbai) and Hollywood, the center of the American film industry.

Sound

Sound in Bollywood films is rarely recorded on location (otherwise known as sync sound). Therefore, the sound is usually created (or recreated) entirely in the studio, with the actors reciting their lines as their images appear on-screen in the studio in the process known as "looping in the sound" or ADR—with the foley and sound effects added later. This creates several problems, since the sound in these films usually occurs a frame or two earlier or later than the mouth movements or gestures. The actors have to act twice: once on-location, once in the studio—and the emotional level on set is often very difficult to recreate. Commercial Indian films, not just the Hindi-language variety, are known for their lack of ambient sound, so there is a silence underlying everything instead of the background sound and noises usually employed in films to create aurally perceivable depth and environment.

The ubiquity of ADR in Bollywood cinema became prevalent in the early 1960s with the arrival of the Arriflex 3 camera, which required a blimp (cover) in order to shield the sound of the camera, for which it was notorious, from on-location filming. Commercial Indian filmmakers, known for their speed, never bothered to blimp the camera, and its excessive noise required that everything had to be recreated in the studio. Eventually, this became the standard for Indian films.

The trend was bucked in 2001, after a 30-year hiatus of synchronized sound, with the film Lagaan, in which producer-star Aamir Khan insisted that the sound be done on location. This opened up a heated debate on the use and economic feasibility of on-location sound, and several Bollywood films have employed on-location sound since then.

Bollywood song and dance

Bollywood film music is called filmi music (from Hindi, meaning "of films"). Songs from Bollywood movies are generally pre-recorded by professional playback singers, with the actors then lip synching the words to the song on-screen, often while dancing. While most actors, especially today, are excellent dancers, few are also singers. One notable exception was Kishore Kumar, who starred in several major films in the 1950s while also having a stellar career as a playback singer. K. L. Saigal, Suraiyya, and Noor Jehan were also known as both singers and actors. Some actors in the last thirty years have sung one or more songs themselves; for a list, see Singing actors and actresses in Indian cinema.

Playback singers are prominently featured in the opening credits and have their own fans who will go to an otherwise lackluster movie just to hear their favourites. Going by the quality as well as the quantity of the songs they rendered, most notable singers of Bollywood are Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Geeta Dutt, Shamshad Begum and Alka Yagnik among female playback singers; and K. L. Saigal, Talat Mahmood, Mukesh, Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Kumar Sanu, S.P.Balasubramanyam, Udit Narayan and Sonu Nigam among male playback singers. Mohammed Rafi is often considered arguably the finest of the singers that have lent their voice to Bollywood songs, followed by Lata Mangeshkar, who, through the course of a career spanning over six decades, has recorded thousands of songs for Indian movies. The composers of film music, known as music directors, are also well-known. Their songs can make or break a film and usually do. Remixing of film songs with modern beats and rhythms is a common occurrence today, and producers may even release remixed versions of some of their films' songs along with the films' regular soundtrack albums.

The dancing in Bollywood films, especially older ones, is primarily modelled on Indian dance: classical dance styles, dances of historic northern Indian courtesans (tawaif), or folk dances. In modern films, Indian dance elements often blend with Western dance styles (as seen on MTV or in Broadway musicals), though it is not unusual to see Western pop and pure classical dance numbers side by side in the same film. The hero or heroine will often perform with a troupe of supporting dancers. Many song-and-dance routines in Indian films feature unrealistically instantaneous shifts of location or changes of costume between verses of a song. If the hero and heroine dance and sing a pas de deux, it is often staged in beautiful natural surroundings or architecturally grand settings. This staging is referred to as a "picturisation".

Songs typically comment on the action taking place in the movie, in several ways. Sometimes, a song is worked into the plot, so that a character has a reason to sing; other times, a song is an externalisation of a character's thoughts, or presages an event that has not occurred yet in the plot of the movie. In this case, the event is almost always two characters falling in love.

Bollywood films have always used what are now called "item numbers". A physically attractive female character (the "item girl"), often completely unrelated to the main cast and plot of the film, performs a catchy song and dance number in the film. In older films, the "item number" may be performed by a courtesan (tawaif) dancing for a rich client or as part of a cabaret show. The dancer Helen was famous for her cabaret numbers. In modern films, item numbers may be inserted as discotheque sequences, dancing at celebrations, or as stage shows.

For the last few decades Bollywood producers have been releasing the film's soundtrack, as tapes or CDs, before the main movie release, hoping that the music will pull audiences into the cinema later. Often the soundtrack is more popular than the movie. In the last few years some producers have also been releasing music videos, usually featuring a song from the film. However, some promotional videos feature a song which is not included in the movie.

Bollywood Item Songs

"Item number" is a term commonly used in the Indian film industries, such as Bollywood, Kollywood and Tollywood, to describe a catchy, upbeat, often sexually provocative dance sequence for a song in a movie that usually has no relevance to the plot of the film.

The classic meaning of "item number" refers to highly sexualized songs with racy imagery and suggestive lyrics. The "item number" would feature an "item girl" who appeared in the film as a dancer, usually in a bar or nightclub, and was only in the film for the length of that song. It was often frowned upon at that point in time. Today, it is a commonly used term with hardly any negative connotations to it.

The term "item number" has now been relaxed to include almost all upbeat dance numbers involving either a woman in clothes that are very revealing, sometimes bikinis or translucent brassieres, or a cameo from a star who is only in the movie for the length of that song. It is a common occurrence for these item numbers to occur in the opening and closing credits of Bollywood films. Presently, there are many exceptions.

"Items Song or Item Number" is a term commonly used in the Indian film industries to describe a catchy, upbeat dance sequence for a song in a movie that has no relevance to the plot of the film. These songs have captured the imagination of the Indian movie-goers and gained in tremendous popularity.

Here is a list of the most popular item songs from Bollywood. I have provided a brief clip of each song to give readers a feel and sense for the pop song. The intention is not to violate or infringe any copyright. The effort to compile this list is purely journalistic in its nature.

If it is a Bollywood movie, there has to be songs. That was the rule some time back. Now there is a new trend. The trend of hot item songs. Every Bollywood movie has an item song these days.

Item songs are basically the sexy songs which have nothing to do with the story of the films but are very critical in terms of pulling crowd. In these songs actresses and models expose like hell.

Item Songs And Fashion

Item songs are filmed on a actress in wet saree, lehanga worn below navel and tight blouse. Some item songs are very sultry and contains sleazy lyrics and some are very sensual and even give a direction to current fashion trends. Like there was an item song "Kajrare Kajrare " filmed on sexy Aishwarya Rai in which song she wore a very tight fitting cleavage revealing blouse. This song got very popular and so was that skimpy blouse among Indian women.

Bollywood films have now become accustomed to "item numbers" or item songs, in which an attractive female character called the "item girl" often completely unrelated to the main cast and plot of the film performs a captivating song and dance number in the film. In older films, the "item number" may be performed by a courtesan, dancing for a rich patron or as part of a cabaret show. The dancer Helen was eminent for her cabaret numbers. In modern films, item numbers are often inserted as discotheque sequences, dancing at celebrations or as stage shows. The music used in such sequences is the upbeat rocking music that attracts the audience.

The classical meaning of "item number" in Indian cinema used to be related as highly sexualized songs with racy descriptions and indicative lyrics. The "item song" would feature an attractive girl who appears in the film as a dancer, usually in a bar or nightclub, and is taken in the film only for the purpose of that song. Earlier this concept was often frowned upon. But, today it is a commonly used with hardly any negative connotations to it.

The term "item number" in modern Indian cinema has now been flexible to include almost all upbeat dance numbers involving either an appealing woman in shiny clothing, or a "guest appearance" from a star and is present in the movie for the length of that song only. It has become quite common for these item numbers to occur in the opening and closing credits of Bollywood films. However, these days, there are many exceptions. Even if the lead or supporting actress dances to an upbeat song in the movie, it is being considered as an item number. For example, Sushmita Sen played an important role in the movie Sirf Tum but she also appeared as an item girl with the song `Dilbar dilbar`.

In the late 1980s, the Ek Do Teen sequence that was added to the movie, Tezaab as an afterthought, transformed Madhuri Dixit and made her a superstar in later years. This song is popular even today and some consider Madhuri Dixit to be the pioneer of the modern trend. But the actual pioneers of this trend is Helen, who did such numbers from as far back as the 1960s, along with other glamour girls like Bindu and Aruna Irani in the 1970s. Actress Urmila Matondkar is one of the most successful item girls, featured in "Chamma Chamma" in the 1998 film China Gate. Although there are many songs that can be called item numbers in the early and mid 1990`s, the term itself became closely associated with the name Shilpa Shetty, when danced for "Main Aai Hoon UP Bihar Lootne" in the movie Shool. Probably, this was the first time Bollywood actually referred to Shilpa as an "item girl" and the scene as a perfect "item number".

Malaika Arora Khan and Yana Gupta are more contemporary item number dancers of Bollywood who are renowned to win the ground, wherever they performed till date. They clearly declared to the media that they don`t want to act in movies since they earn adequate amount of money by just doing one song. Abhishek Bachchan probably became the first "item boy" with his performance in the film Rakht; Shahrukh Khan was also brilliant in his performance as an item boy during the casting of Kaal . However, he earned the label of item number in the true sense of the word with "Dard-e-Disco" in the Farah Khan directed Om Shanti Om where he was shot in typical "item girl" manner with bare six pack abs. He also performed an item number for the lately released movie Krazzy 4. In this film, Hrithik Roshan also has an item number during the end credits.

Many movies use item songs in their films as a marketing tool that is used as a trailer or a teaser to advertise the movie on television music channels. Sometimes reputable female and male actors will offer a special appearance" to an item number to improve the film`s marketability. Item numbers of this type are generally less exposing and have more of a pop flavor.

Bollywood Cricket

Many seasoned cricketers have already expressed their disappointment over the cricketers ‘auction’ ceremony for the IPL, saying the auction projected the reputed cricketers as some saleable commodities which they are not! The Cricket enthusiasts are not liking Bollywood’s undue interference in their Cricket too! However, Bollywood is not paying any heed and are giving their hundred percent to promote their respective teams!

Shah Rukh aka chief of Kolkata Knightriders
When Shah Rukh does business; he does it like no one else! Have we forgotten his excessive promotional strategies for OSO? Apparently the star was even accused of promoting his film by attending T20 Cricket matches by the BCCI! But a king that he is, SRK is leaving no stone unturned to promote his Cricket team by using his ‘star’ status to full capacity! From making music videos featuring himself to launching his team’s mascot and logos... King Khan has become the face of Kolkata Knightriders more than Saurav Ganguly who happens to be the team’s captain!

For all these years, cricket in India had a unique aura and charm, stood by itself, and was bringing cheer to the masses. It was never held on a commercial footing and players who played the game all these years, had true love for the sport. Money was never the center of attraction, hence cricket lovers in India and world over enjoyed the game to the fullest.

With the present generation of players, Money has taken precedence over enjoying the sport. Indians now witness a new era where the sport is mixed with Bollywood. Frankly speaking, the “acting” fraternity comprises of those who are at the lowest ebb of the social strata. They are not “real” people; they are “reel” people. They do not have the slightest clue or imagination of this wonderful game. In their typical style, they of their own sweet will, take a swipe at great players – current and the past, taint the game with their own “filmy” imagination, and bring Cricket at par with the low status of Bollywood.

Better late than never. Once bitten, twice shy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India should wake up and keep the sport away from the Hindi film industry - Bollywood. No matter the money. I join all Indian cricket lovers who only want to enjoy the sport..... not Bollywood. Save it.

Bollywood’s cricket encounters

Get ready for mind blowing and exciting cricket as the third season of the IPL kicks off from 12th March. It is truly a unique extravaganza as cricket meets entertainment. As the cricket fever is on, we give you a list of the films, which are based on cricket in the Hindi Film Industry.

Victory

After a disastrous debut in Love Story 2050, Hurman had a second chance to prove himself with Victory. Directed by Ajitpal Mangat, Victory however failed to impress the critics and audiences alike and was a huge disaster. Though many international cricketers were part of the film it didn’t get audience’s support.

Jannat

Based on match fixing, Jannat released during the first season of the IPL and was a huge hit. Emraan Hashmi played role of a bookie who gets involved in the match fixing as well.

Lagaan

With Lagaan, director Ashutosh Gowarikar cashed in on two important aspects; cricket and patriotism. Aamir Khan played an uncharacteristic farmer in the film with perfection. Set in the Victorian period of the British Raj, the film was a huge success receiving critical acclaim and awards at several international film festivals. The film was also nominated for the best foreign language film at the Academy Award nominations ceremony. Before Lagaan cricket as a theme for the film was not considered ideal because all the previous films with cricket in the center didn’t fared well at box office. But success of Lagaan changed the scenario.

Iqbal
Shreyas Talpade made a perfect debut with Iqbal in which he played a deaf and mute character. Without delivering a single dialogue, he stole the hearts of the audience with his exceptional performance. Iqbal was a rag to riches story in which Shreyas played a cricket-obsessed deaf-mute boy from a remote Indian village. The film was appreciated by the critics as well as the audiences and became the highest grossing low budget film of 2005.

Stumped
Raveena Tandon’s first attempt as a producer was a disaster. Released during the year of the cricket world cup in 2003, the film ran on two tracks simultaneously; cricket and war. The film had an interesting plot, but failed because of a poor script.

Hattrick
Trying to cash in on the cricket world cup fever in 2007, a lot of films based on cricket were released. They included Nana Patekar, Kunal Kapoor and Rimi Sen starrer Hattrick. It was a major disaster at the box office.

Say Salaam India
Starring Sanjay Suri and Milind Sonam, Say Salaam India revolved around a group of 4 boys and their passion for the game. Their passion was not enough to bring in the crowds and the film turned out to be a major flop.

Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii
Even the Rahul Bose and Zian Khan starrer Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii had cricket as its central theme. However, none of the films were able to strike a chord with the audiences and performed poorly at the box office.

Preity’s King’s XI
Following SRK’s footsteps is none other than Preity Zinta! The dimpled beauty is desperately proving that she is no less than SRK when it comes to promoting her team Mohali. From hiring famous designer Surily Goel to design her team’s jerseys to roping in Daler Mehndi to sing for her team’s anthem, Preity too has herself become her team’s lucky charm. “I don’t think I need some other actor to promote my team. I am the lucky charm myself”, says she.

Bollywood Update

It has been months now that Abhinay Deo’s movie Delhi Belly is ready and is waiting for Aamir Khan’s approval. However, the films release is going to take a long time. Sources reveal that, “Aamir was unhappy with the final version of the film and has sent it to a studio in Los Angeles for editing. With this new development, it does not look like the film will release till early next year.”

The English cast of this movie has an ensemble of Vir Das, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Shenaz Treasurywala, Poorna Jaganathan and Imran Khan. A closesource involved with this film says, “It is tragic that despite being made in record time of a few months, the film has been stuck on the edit table for so long.” Initially, Aamir was to spearhead the editing but he got busy with his own films. However, when he did see it, he was not thrilled about it. Moreover, he made it known. Sincethe film has adult jokes and has been made in English, he wants it to be edited like an international project. Aamir already had international distribution plans for Delhi Belly and he thought the film did not match his expectations.

Frieda Pinto may be playing the next bond girl. Earlier, there were rumors that the makers of the movie Quantum of Solace had approached Frieda to star opposite Daniel Craig. However, things did not work out, and the plan was scrapped. Now, the makers of the next Bond movie have again short listed Frieda’s name. If she agrees to dothe film, she will be the first Bollywood actress to be a Bond girl.

Frieda, who suddenly shot to fame with the international movie Slumdog Millionaire, is one of the most famous and sought after Indian actors in Hollywood. Recently, she bagged a movie by Woody Allen, You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, and she will be paid USD 3 million for the same. Till now, Frieda has appeared on every chat show from Oprah Winfrey, Tyra Banks, Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Show with David Letterman.

Jiah Khan is the youngest actor on the sets of Sajid Khan’s upcoming movie Houseful and she is bullied the most. The actress was genuinely trying to help the cast with her knowledge of London city, but she was not spared. Almost the entire movie is shot in London, where Jiah has grown up. A closesource revealed, “It was the first week in London, and the cast and crew were assembling below the hotel to head for the location. In the lobby, director Sajid Khan was waiting with Jiah for the rest of the crew. Just then, Jiah started chatting with Sajid and giving him some information about London, like details of buses, trains, cabs. She was basically trying to play local guide. Sajid heard her for a few minutes, but started to lose interest soon enough.”

Sajid is very fond of Jiah and was listening to her, but Arjun arrived after sometime and saw her chatting about London, he just took out a scarf and tied it around her mouth. Asource said, “Jiah was stunned. She looked at Arjun who burst out laughing. Even Sajid could not control his laughter, but he played the gentleman, helping an embarrassed Jiah, untie the scarf. Every time anyone said anything that concerned London, they would suddenly turn to ask Jiah whether they were right or not.”

Sajid confirmed by saying, “We were one mad family and did a lot of fun stuff on the sets. Jiah was explaining things about London very innocently but Arjun just gagged her mouth. She took it very sportingly though.”

Recently, Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hugged and patched up; even Kareena has ended her cold war with Aishwarya. All of this happened at Karan Johar’s birthday party last year. Karan has taken his role as Bollywood Peacemaker to the next level. Last week, Karan played a catalyst, making Shahid and Kareena not only acknowledge each other’s presence, but also strike up a conversation. The patch up took place at Shahrukh’s bungalow, Mannat, where King Khan had his celebration of My Name Is Khan.

A source said, “Shahid and Kareena came face to face, everyone thought they would simply ignore each other like they have done so many times in the past. But this time, Karan happened to be present right there and instead of marching past each other they slowed down for a bit. And the rest, as they say, is history.” They both had a warm exchange and even Saif joined them later. Kareena and Shahid were both unavailable for comments. Kareena’s spokesperson said, “Kareena has no problem with anybody, including Shahid.”

Vishal Bradwaj is putting in all the time and effort for seven different looking husbands for Priyanka’s role in his film Ek Bataa Saath’ . Vishal wants all the seven husbands to look as different as possible. Priyanka Chopra plays the protagonist in the movie and kills all her husbands. A closesource revealed, “Vishal wants each actor to look different from the other. So far, he has finalized Mohanlal, Naseeruddin Shah, John Abraham and Arshad Warsi. As is evident from the casting till now, each actor has a distinctive look from skin color, body structure, height, and personality. The script ofthe film is unconventional.”

The source also said, “Irrfan Khan might be signed to play the fifth husband. During his recent visit to the US, Vishal had zeroed in on a foreigner, who will play one of Priyanka’s husbands.” Vishal Bradwaj wrote Ek Bataa Saath. Vishal liked Ruskin Bond’s Susanna’s Seven Husbands, which the writer developed into his film script.

The original plan to cast a big star for the role of Jessica Lal, the assassinated model from Delhi, in the upcoming movie ‘No One Killed Jessica‘ has fallen out. Vidya Balan is playing Jessica’s sister Sabrina Lal and Rani Mukherji is playin the role of an investigative journalist. However, the chance of finding an established actor to play the small role of Jessica Lal has faded out. The directors and producers are facing a lack of choice and have decided to cast a newcomer for this role.

A close source says, “Once Vidya and Rani were cast, established actresses who were approached guessed the will have a very little to do especially as the character who gets murdered in the early part of the story. Now they have no choice but to cast a newcomer.” Director of the movie Rajkumar Gupta confirmed saying, “We are looking at casting a new girl as Jessica. We feel the impact of the crime on the audience’s mind would be far greater if theactress playing Jessica is an unknown face, we are looking at a theater actor for Jessica’s role and for other smaller roles.” Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV said, “Apart from Rani Mukherji and Vidya Balan, all the other characters inthe film form the supporting cast. They are good actors but not known faces.”

Bollywood Jokes

After a great success of Aishwarya Rai"s movie Bride & Prejudice all over the world, Indian government wanted a special postage stamp with her picture on it to recognize her. Government stress that it should be world class. The stamps were released, and Indian Government & Aishwarya Rai both were pleased. But within a couple of days, began hearing complaints that the stamp was not sticking properly, and became furious. Indian Government ordered CBI to investigate the matter. CBI checked out at several post offices, and then reported to the Government Officials that: "The stamp is really world class. The problem is, all the peoples are licking on the wrong side of the stamp."
Here is the reason. Why Newton Committed Suicide.....
Once, Newton came to India and watched a few Tamil movies that had his head spinning. He was convinced that all his logic and laws in physics were just a huge pile of junk and apologized for everything he had done.
In the movie of Rajanikanth, Newton was confused to such an extent that he went paranoid.
Here are a few scenes
Rajanikanth has a Brain Tumor which, according to the doctors can"t be cured and his death is imminent. In one of the fights, our great Rajanikanth is shot in the head. To everybody"s surprise, the bullet passes through his ears taking away the tumor along with it and he is cured! Long Live Rajanikanth!
In another movie, Rajanikanth is confronted with 3 gangsters. Rajanikanth has a gun but unfortunately only one bullet and a knife. Guess, what he does? He throws the knife at the middle gangster? & shoots the bullet towards the knife. The knife cuts the bullet into 2 pieces, which kills both the gangsters on each side of the middle gangster & the knife kills the middle one.
Rajanikanth is chased by a gangster. Rajanikanth has a revolver but no bullets in it. Guess, what he does. Nah? not even in your remotest imaginations. He waits for the gangster to shoot. As soon as the gangster shoots, Rajanikanth opens the bullet compartment of his revolver and catches the bullet. Then, he closes the bullet compartment and fires his gun. Bang... the gangster dies...
This was too much for our Newton to take! He was completely shaken and decided to go back. But he happened to see another movie for one last time, and thought that at least one movie would follow his theory of physics. The whole movie goes fine and Newton is happy that all in the world hasn"t changed. Oops, not so fast!
The "climax" finally arrives. Rajanikanth gets to know that the villain is on the other side of a very high wall. So high that Rajanikanth can"t jump even if he tries like one of those superman techniques that our heroes normally use. Rajanikanth has to desperately kill the villain because it"s the climax. (Newton dada is smiling since it is virtually impossible?) Rajanikanth suddenly pulls two guns from his pockets. He throws one gun in the air and when the gun has reached above the height of the wall, he uses the second gun and shoots at the trigger of the first gun in air. The first gun fires off and the villain is dead.

Aamir Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Salman Khan die together in an accident and go to heaven. When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: Don"t step on the ducks!"
So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, Aamir accidentally steps on one. Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest woman he has ever seen. St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to the ugly woman!"
The next day, Vivek Uberoi steps accidentally on a duck, and along comes St. Peter, who doesn"t miss a thing, and with him is another extremely ugly woman. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for Aamir Khan.
Salman has observed all this and not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly woman, is very, VERY careful where he steps. He manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to him with the most gorgeous woman he has ever laid eyes on: a very tall, Aishwarya Rai. St. Peter chains them together without saying a word. Salman remarks, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"
She replies, "I don"t know about you, but I stepped on a duck!"

Here are some very funny jokes of munnabhai and circuit.Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. is a 2003 Indian musical comedy directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra with a story much closer to the 1998 film Patch Adams. The central protagonist, Munna Bhai, (Sanjay Dutt) goes to medical school in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. He is helped by his sidekick, Circuit (Arshad Warsi).

Bollywood Actor Salmaan Khan

Salman Khan, born 27 Dec.'65, is one of the Bollywood's highly popular stars in Tinsel Ville, who, at 5'7" looks charmingly handsome and who actually comes from a family that already has acquintance of the industry with his father Salim Khan songs and script-writing the films for years.

Salman Khan, who is called "Salu" at home, is the eldest of three sons in the family with the younger bro "Arbazz" and the youngest bro "Sohail" in the departments of action and direction of films in the industry, respectively.

Though Salman Khan had a low profile after his first appearence in "Biwi Ho To Aisi", he, successfully, managed to get the attention of a few top class directors and in the way got a big break through Sooraj Barjatya's blockbustser movie "MAINE PYAR KIYA" which broke all kinds of records and at the box office - giving the transformation to him from a low profile category to the high profile in one night. The movie "Maine Pyar Kiya" was given a lot of praise in the industry doing a whole lot of good things for everyone in the movie and to top it all, was given the consideration as SHOLAY - II.

Comes another hit "Patthar Ke Pool" with Raveena Tandon but he was suddenly under the clouds of shadow as a few films of his had flopped and failed at the box office and again Raj Shree comes to his rescue giving him a chance in HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN. Later on, there was no looking back for him as he has risen to the stardom and the life in the industry has been a walk on the bed of roses.

Afterwards, he signed two movies of his director-brother Sohail - namely, "Auzaar" and "Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya.."

He has taken the graduation when he got the FILM FARE's "Best Supporting Actor" for his role in "Kuch Kuch Hota Hain" which shows his maturity as an actor and his roles in "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and "Jaanam Samjha Karo" are worth of appreciation.

Since "Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge" and "Chal Mera Bhai" did pretty well at the box office, all eyes of the industry are set on his new release "Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega" which is so unfortunately not faring upto the expectation. No doubt, Salman Khan is one of the best actors the industry has ever produced. He is one of the Bollywood's great actors.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who appeared as a prosecution witness in a case against gangster Chhota Shakeel's henchman Anjum Fazlani, failed to identify the accused today.

Salman told special MCOCA judge M P Kukday that he might have met Fazlani only once or twice several years ago and thus does not remember him.

According to the prosecution, Fazlani had threatened Salman to reduce his fee for producer Nazim Rizvi's movie "Chori Chori Chupke Chupke" (2001) or face dire consequences.

The actor, clad in a black shirt and off-white trousers, told the court he was approached by Rizvi and assistant producer Abdul Rahim Allahbaksh with an offer to play the lead role in the movie.

"I agreed to the offer but on the condition that the movie should be directed by a well-established director. Rahim wanted to direct the movie himself, but then agreed and the movie was directed by Abbas-Mastan," Salman told the court.

"Salman stuck to what he had said to the police in his statement. His evidence is essential for the prosecution for corroboration with Rizvi's confession," special public prosecutor Rohini Salian said.

Bollywood Releases This Friday

This Friday saw three diverse films open in the theatres for the viewers to judge what good entertainment is and what’s not. One of this week's new release 'Delhii Heights' is a slice-of-life drama about the residents of an upscale building complex in the Capital. Leading the pack are Jimmy Shergill and Neha Dhupia who play a married couple working in rival advertising companies. They're a couple that must deal with professional rivalry and trust issues just months into their marriage. The other films that released are 'Khanna & Iyer' and 'Say salam India.'

“Atithi tum kab jaoge?” stars Ajay Devgan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal in the lead. The movie is directed by Ashwani Dhir who earlier directed “One Two Three”. Dheer wrote comedy serial “Office Office” for Sab TV for 8 years. Music of the movie is given by Pritam and lyrics by Irshad Kamil.

Tanushree Dutta and Udita Goswami starrer horror movie “ROKKK” is based on supernatural and inevitable emotions. The film is directed by Rajesh Ranshinge who earlier made TV serials like “Sssh Koi Hai”, “CID” and “AAhat”.

Studio 18’s Abhay Deol starrer “ROAD, MOVIE” is directed by Dev Benegal. This movie will have very selective release and is aimed at selected audience.

I think “ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE” will do better then other two. However, “ROKKK” and “ROAD, MOVIE” will also do well with the target audience.

Then there is a new kind of movie titled 'Love Khichdi'. Here, Randeep Hooda returns with a bang. Randeep himself a Jat boy called Vir in the movie, initially feels that love is nothing but lust. Very soon he discovers through very funny and true to life encounters with seven beautiful women that there is a lot more to love than lust! So, the movie deals with the confusion and convenience in love, and also about a lot of men and women knowing about each other but never disclosing the same. Vir lands in Mumbai after studying in the Pusa Catering College. He works at a five star hotel as a chef (second in command in the kitchen). His big dream is to own a restaurant. He has lust for every woman he meets. All this leads to a wonderfully funny journey to cook the deliciously tasty khichdi garnished with all the great spices of love and lust. Well, his khichdi has a number of flavors. The seven women he meets have different flavors like those of spices.

Third, 'Quick Gun Murugan' is a story of South Indian cowboy. To make someone laugh is a tough job, yet most of the Bollywood directors try their hand on comedy dish. This is another matter that few succeed in making it tasty. 'Quick Gun Murugan' also leaves no stone unturned to make audience laugh. Shashanka Ghosh directs it featuring Dr. Rajendra Prasad as Quick Gun Murugun, Naseer as Rice Plate Reddy, Vinay Pathak as Mr C Gupta, Rambha as Mango Dolly, Anu Menon as Locket Lover, Raju Sundaram as Rowdy MBA, Shanmugaraja as Gun Powder, and Ashwin Mushran as Dr Django.

Fourth, 'Toss' is the captivating story of six childhood friends who on their way back from a vacation come across a fortune. They decide to split the money and start dreaming a king's life. They calculate the actions, risks, percentages - but forget to calculate the human heart. Soon before they realize the owners of the booty are after them, the law is after them and worse ...they are after each other. The friends tread a path where greed rules and death has an equal chance of triumph.... and money awaits its new set of victims! This hair-raising theme that revolves around an unpredictable human psyche keeps you on tenterhooks and its any one's guess who will survive the testing grounds.

Fifth, 'Kisaan', the story of a farmer, a powerful father, and his two sons, presents an honest view of the rugged life and goals of a simple farming family against the lush green agricultural lands of modern day Punjab. It begins with a Kisaan played by Jackie Shroff, a widower who's immersed in the legacy of his ancestral lands as he raises two very different sons; Arbaaz Khan is formally schooled to become a city based lawyer while Sohail Khan through lack of funds and inclination towards anything other than farming is kept by his father's side. When Dalip Tahil, a shrewd businessman, convinces many beleaguered farmers to sell their lands for his commercial interests some by using the violent tactics of the village's heavy hand Romeo, it shatters the harmony of village life, and Dayal's family is jeopardized. Dayal Singh and his sons are locked into a battle of right; each is focused on their path to success.

Lastly its 'Daddy Kool' - a comedy in which Good Son Steven Lazarus, an aspiring writer tries to give his father a decent funeral by delivering a eulogy…that includes a description of the rivers of Goa.

So Bollywood has a lot lined up for the next year huh… and why not, after one of the best years ever witnessed by the Indian Film Industry, almost all the big and small production houses have their pockets full… except for RGV Factory, but they’re still gonna belt out the most no. of potboilers in 2007 I guess

Six movies titled 'Yeh Mera India', 'Daddy Cool', 'Kisaan', 'Love Khichdi', 'Quick Gun Murugan' and 'Toss' will release this Friday ( Aug 28th). Most of them are comedies except 'Kisaan' and likely to entertain the audience. First, 'Yeh Mera India' (Y.M.I.) looks interesting. This belongs to N.Chandra with Smilie Suri acting in it. She is capable of fighting for her rights and says that this is her real life character too. Smilie Suri plays Asha, a middle class Maharashtrian girl, who is working in a call center, just like today's young girls. But, she is very strong and unwilling to give up or accept defeat. The film, which is the story of 24 hours, has been shot at real location. Smilie claims anybody can relate to the characters shown in the film and one would walk out with the feeling of pride at being an Indian.

In the past, Yash Raj Films has shot more than three movies extensively in the country. Chak De, Salaam Namaste and Bachnaa Ae Hasseno are some of the movies shot in Australia by the production house.

Filmmakers have also come out in support of Indian students and have vowed not to shoot their films in Australia. Heyy Babyy, Singh Is King, Victory, Ta Ra Rum Pam, Dostana and Main aur Mrs Khanna (yet to release) are some of the recent movies shot in Australia.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees, which has a membership of 45,000, has also agreed to boycott Australia till the racist attacks on Indian students continue.

Shooting in foreign locations has been part of the growing globalisation of Bollywood. Realising this, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) had been inviting delegations from several countries to its annual meet — Ficci-Frames.

In 2007, a group of 11 Australian companies and institutes showcased the country’s cutting-edge technology in film and entertainment at ‘Ficci-Frames 2007’.

Bollywood film ‘Kismat Konnection’, a romantic comedy featuring actor Shahid Kapoor who is riding high on the success of Jab We Met is being extensively shot in Mumbai.
